Not quite the same Clock Day

Posted by BoltClock - August 15th, 2016

In case you haven't realized, this year's Clock Day was marked on Newgrounds with a unique site skin, but not only that, also a brand spanking new set of mood icons, both made by user Luwano.

At first, I thought little of it. But then I decided to check out the mood icons. And, holy shit.

I saw myself.

I'M IN A NEWGROUNDS MOOD ICON.

Holy shit of a cunt in a dry Coke bottle.

Ah, speaking of really, really obscure references. That's a line verbatim from my 2006 Clock Day movie, The 'B'ee. If you're at all familiar with my work, you're probably well aware of the game I've been planning based on it that has so far never seen the light of day.

This year marks the 15th anniversary of the Clock Crew, as well as the 10th anniversay of The 'B'ee. Unlike the previous 9 years or so, I actually set aside a good amount of time to work on The 'B'ee Game this time around. And yet I'm unable to ship, thanks to some unforeseen issues (not the least of which are game-breaking bugs).

I'll readily admit, I was inspired by JonBro turning things around and putting together Riddle Transfer 2, the epic conclusion to his well-loved Riddle School series, 10 years after the fact. And he made it! And as someone who was semi-close to him, at least a number of years ago, I am so happy for him. I guess I wanted to see if I could do the same with what I still consider to be one of my best solo works on Newgrounds considering I've really hardly done much beyond that.

So I have a game, with an engine that works for the most part except for some really severe bugs, as well as hardly any of the other things that make a complete game. I don't think I could really call a game with a semi-functional engine and nothing else a game. Sure it might pass judgment on Clock Day. But it's neither spam, nor a high quality product. It's half-finished work. Half-finished work is not spam. It's half-finished work that was clearly intended to be a fully fledged movie or game. If you know me even just through my work, you can tell I take this shit way too seriously. But I can't help it.

Although this also marks the 5th anniversary of my 10th anniversary dedication (Christ that's a lot of anniversaries), in which I said that any Clock Day Flash no matter how shitty was still a Clock Day Flash, I can safely say that I will not be submitting anything this year. Not even spam. I've decided that, with the surprise from Luwano (I was completely unaware he was doing any of this until today, let alone picking me to draw), and the fact that I honestly don't think there's anything I could submit that would do my 2006 movie justice, I'm comfortable letting 2016 be a different Clock Day for me compared to the rest. Besides, this wouldn't be my first time missing a Clock Day. My first time was in 2012, and man was that rough. But I got better.

I myself have been on Newgrounds for more than 11 years now, as both n00b-l0s3r and BoltClock. I don't know how much longer Flash will continue to be around (what with Adobe themselves renaming Flash Professional to Animate), but what I can tell you is that I won't be going away anytime soon. Hopefully, by the time I finish my game, folks will still be around to play it.

Happy Clock Day.

wow. just, wow.

i usually dont say things like this out loud, but: your post is beautiful emotional and honest, and it has honestly touched me.

your dedication for the CC, and your love for creating art/for honoring the CC is truly something amazing, something worth imitating, and its really touching.
i really liked your B-ee movie back then, and i always enjoyed all of your clock-movies, so i will always support your works, and i will always be a fan of your movies/games.

i hope that one day we can be friends (if you want).
you can add me on AIM/on chat anytime.
(PM me for any details)

also, i collaborate with other clocks about flash movies, so its also a good thing.

as for your ''Bee game project'', i believe that i can help you with that.
there are many good NG programmers in the NGBBS, and i could ask a few people in there to help you with the games actionscript/the coding/with the bug-fixes.

heck, you could even make a thread in there, and people would jump in there to help you.
at least, they've helped one of my e-friends once, so its true.

an other solution would be to ask for game-testers to try your game for bugs/error fixing.
this always works with complicated games.

i could test your game, if you want. (and i could also suggest ideas and possible story paths, if you want).

anyways, its been great this clockday, and i've been also featured, and shown as an icon for clockday, so im really really happy!

also, its great to see you back in action.
please stick around, if you want. (or if you have free time in the future).
have a nice day, and have a great clockday!

also, one more question:

i dont know if i've asked this before, but from which movie of yours is this user-pic icon from?
(the one where you have bolt-clock being angry at BB10-clock, while BB10 walks out of a door)??

please reply back, and have a nice day.
